Fire Dynamics

Safe and effective fireground operations depend on firefighters’ and fire officers’ understanding and ability to apply knowledge of fire dynamics and the impact of tactical operations.

Building on Declarative Knowledge

Basic fire behavior training often focuses on transfer of declarative knowledge and ensuring that learners can recognize definition of terms and concepts related to combustion, fire development, and fire behavior phenomena. However, transfer of learning to a fireground context requires developing the ability to:

  • Recognize relevant cues related to fire behavior and building performance
  • Anticipate what is likely to happen next and when relevant cues don’t fit.
  • Identify a reasonable course of action based on current and projected conditions.

Training Options

Command Competence, CFBT-US, LLC offers a range of training options to develop and improve firefighters understanding and ability to apply knowledge of fire dynamics, recognize critical cues, and anticipate potential fire development and the influence of firefighting tactics..
